Beschreibung: I. 'FIGHTING DISEASE. Troops in the Balkans being inoculated against enteric etc., before going up to the Front.' Australian troops stand in line in the open-air, left shirt sleeves rolled up to receive their injection. Afterwards each injection mark is painted with antiseptic.II. 'MUNICIPAL SUNDAY. The Mayor and Corporation attend service at Southwark Cathedral, being the first Sunday after their election.' Mayor and retinue followed by civilian dignitaries and military men file out of the cathedral past police guard. MS head and shoulders of the new mayor, in conventional dress but wearing his chain of office. He is nodding and bows at the very end of the sequence so that the last image of him is the top of his rather sparsely haired head.III. 'LINK OF EMPIRE. Princess Henry of Battenberg presents a silk Union Jack to the contingent of Newfoundland troops at Chelsea Hospital and inspects the guard of Honour.' The Princess - who seems to be walking with some difficulty - takes a large Union Jack from one officer and quickly passes it on to another who comes forward to receive the flag. Cut to the Princess after a short speech (?) as she steps back confusedly clutching her script, as others applaud. Newfoundland troops present arms.IV. 'ARMY ECONOMY. Men in training at the Army Service Corps depôt at Osterley Park have converted waste land into a garden, and are growing their own vegetables.' Men rake between young seedlings - huts in background. Two soldiers standing in a field of Brussels sprouts hold up two of the vegetables. An officer admires the sprouts, though rather diffidently. Men file into one of the huts - presumably to eat Brussels sprouts.V. 'SOLDIERS OF THE CZAR. French and Serbian troops line the streets of Salonika as the Russians march to their camp, led by their band.' MS along city street as Russians march into camera - among the band is a uniformed but very young boy. MS as soldiers march away - French line the side of the route.
I. Australian troops in Salonika are inoculated.II. Mayor attends a service at Southwark Cathedral.III. Newfoundland troops are presented with a silk Union Jack.IV. Soldiers grow vegetables.V. Russians troops arrive in Salonika.
